A ‘lil Lip Service

Red’s body is coming together, but there is still a missing piece.  With no front lip the MR2 looks pretty sad.  Red’s original lip was missing from the time of purchase.  A new one from Toyota will set you back just over $300, which I did pay, but not for Red.  Whitey on the other hand had a lip that was intact, but a little rough.  Since Whitey got screwed on the Fuel Tank situation, it was time for Whitey to get the new hotness.

With Whitey’s new lip securely tucked into the frunk and the old one removed it was time to fix it.  I picked up a cheap plastic welder and did my best to fill the zip tie holes (from my previous “fix”) and to just bond both sides of the lip together as one piece.  I ordered some 3M 08101 Structural Adhesive and used that as a filler.  It worked quite well, and I’m anxious to see how long it lasts.  I’ve tried flexible body fillers in the past, but they haven’t turned out to be very flexible.  I’ve heard good things about this, and this should be a perfect test for it.

With some color added it was time to put it on the car and enjoy an almost complete car.
