Perfect Aeronautics caps are starting to feel more like a life mission than a simple project for one of my cars. Now that the wheels in question need to be refinished it’s the perfect time to get the new center caps ready.
As I said before these were in overall pretty poor shape. They are missing tabs, have chipped edges, and one was even cracked about a quarter of the way across.
I started by 3D printing just the tabs from my previous drawing. Since these are much smaller I was able to use ABS filament to match the original material. I started by using a needle applicator and acetone to melt the two together.
I followed this up by reinforcing it with Devcon HP250. I also repaired the crack and filled some of the larger chips with the Devcon as well.
Before I lose the original finish on all of my caps forever, I’ve started taking some high rest photos (lead shot) of the “Enkei Aeronautics” logo so I can recreate it and put it back on the caps once they are finished.
