Doing The Unthinkable…. I Bought a …. a …. Prius!

The word “Prius” is about as close to a dirty word as you can get in most of the automotive community. It’s usually proceeded by a profanity and followed up by an exclamation point. So what would posses a car guy to not only think about a Prius, but to go out and actually buy one? Math. We knew we were going to be moving the shop (and home), and we knew it wasn’t going to be close to work. I knew on a good day the Camry and Red would only be around 30mpg and that was only if you could keep them moving. Sitting at idle in stop and go traffic shot that number to hell. The Prius C however promised 53 MPG city and 46 MPG highway. The simple math said at 200 miles a day that the car would basically pay for itself.

I was originally planning on going used, and after looking around for a bit I found the car I wanted at Toyota of Sunnyvale. We stopped by only to find that they first tried to raise the price and then wouldn’t deal on the price at all. Even after we pointed out new damage! Luckily I had also been speaking with Toyota of Fremont. They promised a good deal on a new one, and while I was a bit skeptical we went to go look.

They had the color I wanted (Tangerine Splash Pearl), and it was in the trim I wanted (model 2). After a few hours of debating, I finally gave in and brought home what is actually the first new car I’ve ever purchased. A 2016 Toyota Prius C.
