Why Fix What You Can Upgrade?

The 4Runner came back from it’s last adventure on the Arizona Strip a little worse for wear.  The first fix was to find a set of tires to replace the set of Remington tires that didn’t survive off road with something that would.

New BF Goordrich All Terrains are a little pricey, but a slightly used set on some stock 4th Gen 4Runner wheels however…. Well those are a little more affordable.  The fit is good, but the offset may sit just a smidge farther in.  That isn’t your imagination, they are an inch bigger than the stock ones.  The tire is technically the same size at a 265/75 but that extra inch of wheel in the middle fills out the wheel well pretty well.  Almost too well.

With the tires taken care of it was time to do something about the shocks that were on their way out.  I went through a lot of debate about what I wanted to do.  At the end of the day I settled on the factory Toyota “99 Tall Springs” and some Bilstein 4600 Shocks.

The Details:

part numbers:
FR Springs – Blue / Yellow (48131-35400) Passenger Side
FL Springs – Blue / Pink (48131 – 35350) Driver Side
REAR Springs – Yellow / Red (48231 – 35210)

Of course we had to take it out and make sure the new shocks and tires worked better than the old stuff.
