Take It Down Low

Looking back at the final photos of the bed build you will notice just how much space those fridge tie downs waste.  Sure those sweet plastic handles are great for carrying the heavy fridge too and from the truck but I have been nervous about them breaking off from the first moment I used them to secure this thing in place.  This has been a long time coming.

The new mount pieces are pretty simple.  They are simply 4″ wide steel with a 90 degree bend welded to some 1″ wide strap.  The 1″ wide section is held in place with the factory feet and the 4″ section is sandwiched under the original handles.  For tie the tie down I hit up a junk yard and robbed a 2nd gen 4Runner then welded them in place.

They were of course finished off with some more Duplicolor Bed Liner.  This stuff works well to hide small pin holes and such on fabrication jobs and leaves a great textured finish similar to a factory panel when you’re done.
