The truck has been seeing dirt under its tires far more often recently. As much fun as I am having, playing in the dirt and rocks, I’m always a bit nervous about body damage. I’m not ready to make the 4Runner a beat up dedicated off road rig, so I started looking into protection.
The factory front skid plate is a long way from being real protection and I know that, but I would rather bend it and throw it away than need to replace and repaint a bumper cover. The one made specifically for the 4Runner was expensive and wasn’t guaranteed to fit with the late model “fat bumper”, so I bought the one for the Tacoma. The Tacoma version was much cheaper at right around $100, now we just have to get it to fit the 4Runner.

Having the bracket bolt up to the factory tow hooks is a good start.

It looks like it just needs extended a few inches.

And done.
At least now I have a front “Rock Detection Device”!
