You may remember I mentioned during the Toyotafest coverage, that the Corolla woke a little groggy and only able to open a single eye. Not one to leave things broken I started tinkering almost as soon as we got back.
I found a couple of issues when started digging into things. The retractor relay was the first problem area I found. The case was cracked which let in a whole lot of that water we drove through on the way to Toyotafest. As a result there was one burnt trace and a relay that didn’t relay very well anymore. The trace was easily jumper-ed with a wire, while the relay had to be replaced with one stolen from a similar part out of an AW11 MR2. Once that was working I found that it had also taken out a transistor on the actual headlight controller. I again started shopping in the MR2 parts bin and got out the desoldering and soldering irons to make the repair.
I didn’t snap too many pics of the process, but at least things are working again. Most important I sealed the cracked relay case from the inside with a bit of silicone to make sure the headlights were once again waterproof.
